Bass Fishing Japan
Bass Fishing Lake Biwa JapanLake Biwa is Japan's most famous bass fishing lake, home to the world-record largemouth bass.
The northern side of the lake is called “North Lake (“Hokko” Japanese)” and the southern side “South Lake(“Nanko” Japanese),” based on the Lake Biwa Bridge located in the center of Lake Biwa.
Our main activity is in the North Lake area on the north side.
Summer is the season in Lake Biwa when big bass that have recovered from spawning and formed schools begin migrating offshore. On the north side of the lake, the main pattern is to fish deep areas over 30 feets deep, and on the south side, the main pattern is to fish in grassy areas with good water passage.
Many of them form schools, so you can catch them in succession when you find the right spot. Key spots are where the water temperature is cooler than others and the amount of oxygen is higher.
Next we’ll show you some baits to help you fish such places more efficiently.
1、Finesse Drop Shot Rig
Drop shot rigs are indispensable for efficient fishing in deep water with fast currents. A great rig that combines an efficient approach with a high ability to get fish to bite.
The bait used is an extremely small microbait. We mostly use Ano Straight 3.5” set on an offset hook.
2、Alabama Rig (A-rig)
Alabama rigs are also effective in summer. Especially setting a small jerkbait in the center of an Alabama rig and shaking it is seriously effective.
Because of this, the “Small Jerkbait Alabama Rig” can be used in the middle range of Lake Biwa in summer, where there is a lot of glass, making it difficult to approach many lures, but thanks to the blade set around the rig, it can be approached carefully without getting caught in the glass.
Also, even in deep areas with fast current, the blade is attached with enough weight to effectively approach a wide range of layers.
By shaking the fish to entice bass, you can take your time to attract bass in a shorter distance than by simply reeling them in.
3、 Weightless Soft Jerk Bait
Weightless rigs of Sakamata Shad are very effective for schools of big bass migrating to grass areas in summer. Jerk to catch schools of bass migrating to areas where glass pockets or glass walls are formed.
The Sakamata Shad is a bait that has become famous for its shaking minnow, but it has actually proven very successful on weightless rigs as well.
It is very easy to use. Throw it where you think bass might be, jerk it twice, let it fall for three seconds, and repeat.
4、 Koike Heavy Drop Shot Rig
As effective as the Sakamata Shad in catching big bass migrating through the summer grass is Koike’s Heavy Drop Shot.
Rotting glass clings to rigs outside the glass edge on the south side of Lake Biwa. Koike is made of elastomer, it floats on the surface of the water, so, putting a heavy sinker on it and forcing it to sink while the Koike itself floats, it avoids debris and makes it easy for migrating bass to find it and eat it.
Effective to use a combination of jerk and pause.
