What Species Can You Catch on Osaka Bay?

Osaka Bay is packed with hard-fighting inshore game fish.
These are the targets we chase with lures
.

Chinu / Black Seabream

Chinu (black seabream) caught on Osaka Bay

The star of Osaka Bay. Chinu are clever, aggressive, and fight far harder than their size suggests. It is a technical, addictive light-tackle lure game unique to Japan’s urban waters. And they bite all year round.

Seabass / Japanese Sea Bass

Japanese seabass caught on Osaka Bay

Japan’s standard saltwater fishing target. We cast around bridges, walls, and channels where seabass ambush baitfish. It is an exciting game with explosive strikes.

Akou / Red-Spotted Grouper

Akou (red-spotted grouper) caught on Osaka Bay

A prized grouper living around the bay’s rocky structures and one of the most delicious fish in western Japan. Mainly a summer target.

Other Species

Osaka Bay has much more than our three main targets.
Depending on the season, you may also chase Kibire (yellowfin seabream), Mebaru (Japanese rockfish), Tachiuo (hairtail), Kasago (scorpionfish), and more.
Tell us what you would like to try. Our captain will chase whatever is biting best that day.

Aji / Horse Mackerel

Aji (Japanese horse mackerel) caught on Osaka Bay

Buri / Yellowtail

Buri (Japanese amberjack) caught on Osaka Bay

Sawara / Spanish Mackerel

In Japan for holidays from Australia. Booked a day with Japan Bass Fishing Agent. Pickup and drop off from the Hotel in Kyoto made things very convenient. Fished on Lake Biwa with Keito, who has a great boat, gear and knows live scoping very well. Overall, a professional outfit that is recommended.

Gran experiencia. Ojalá podamos repetir en el futuro. ¡Gracias por este día!

I had a fantastic 4-hour fishing trip on Lake Biwa! 🎣 The whole experience was very well organized, and we managed to catch several really nice black bass, which made the trip absolutely worth it. A huge thank you to our guide (Kazuya), who was professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the lake. He knew exactly where to look for fish and was always helpful throughout the entire session. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone visiting Japan who wants to try fishing for black bass on Lake Biwa. Even in just four hours, we had a great time and caught some impressive fish. I would happily do this trip again! 🔥🎣

Tanaka-San was an awesome guide on Lake Biwa. I brought my ultralight finesse travel rod and reel to Japan for a few fishing opportunities and Tanaka-san set me up with appropriate yet very effective rigging for the limitations of the rod. His ability to scope bass made for a fun filled day of catching LMBs. Thank you again, Tanaka-san!

    Guide Info

    Shinya Aramaki

Captain Shinya Aramaki, Osaka Bay fishing guide

    Profile

I have been fishing Osaka Bay since I was a child, which is close to 40 years on the water. Before going full time as a captain, I spent eight years at Megabass, one of Japan’s best-known lure brands, as a sales representative and pro staff angler, and I wrote for the fishing newspaper Lure News for three years.

Osaka Bay is my home water. I run light-tackle lure trips for chinu (black seabream), seabass and rockfish. These are the fish that make this one of the most interesting urban fisheries anywhere in Japan. I know how they move through the seasons, and I build each day around the conditions and around what you want to catch.

The fishing here is technical, and it is a lot of fun. Chinu in particular are clever, aggressive fish that pull far harder than you expect on light gear. Whether you are picking up a lure rod for the first time or you have fished all over the world, my job is to put you on fish and show you how we do it in Japan.

Away from the boat I lead a group that looks after the Minami-Ashiyahama shoreline and I organise a bay fishing tournament here in the Kobe area. This water is my backyard, and I want visitors to see it at its best.

I look forward to spending a day with you on Osaka Bay.

I hold a first-class small vessel licence and run my own boat, the TOPKNOT LIMITED 208.

Why Choose Japan Bass Fishing Agent on Osaka Bay?

A private Osaka Bay fishing experience for travelers who want to enjoy saltwater fishing in Japan with confidence.

    01. Fish Without Leaving the City

Most saltwater charters in Japan require long transfers to distant ports. Osaka Bay is different. It is a real saltwater fishery right next to the city you are staying in.

You can leave your hotel in central Osaka in the morning, be casting on the bay shortly after, and be back in the city by the afternoon. It is a perfect half-day escape between sightseeing days.

Our Osaka Bay trip is inshore lure fishing inside the bay, not a bluewater offshore trip. You get consistent action and a Japanese urban fishing culture you will not experience anywhere else.

Even for one guest, the boat and guide time are reserved exclusively for you.

    03. Designed for International Travelers

Our service is designed for international guests who want to enjoy saltwater fishing in Japan without worrying about gear or local arrangements.

Before the trip, we communicate in English and clearly explain the schedule, meeting details, payment process, and what to bring. On the fishing day, rental tackle, life jackets, and insurance are included as part of the guided experience.

This makes it easier for travelers to enjoy Osaka Bay fishing with confidence, even if it is their first time fishing in Japan.
