A Day on Lake Biwa with a Bass Fishing Guide (Pick-up and rental tackle Included)
Wondering how a guided bass fishing day works in Japan? This guide walks you through the full flow—from hotel pickup to the boat ride, fishing time, and drop-off—so you can join with confidence.
we will explain a day on lake biwa fishing guide tour
1) Hotel or Station Pickup
Our guide will pick you up by car directly from your hotel or the nearest station—no complicated meeting points, no confusion. It’s the easiest way to start your day smoothly and stay focused on fishing.
Depending on your preferred start time, we’ll set a pickup time in advance, usually between 6:30 AM and 8:30 AM. This window works well for most Lake Biwa bass fishing trips, allowing us to match the day’s conditions and your schedule.
When you book, you’ll see a section in our inquiry/booking form where you can enter your hotel name and address. Please fill that in so we can plan the best pickup route. If you haven’t decided on your accommodation yet, no problem—just tell us later by email and we’ll update the pickup details.

2) Quick Briefing on the Way to the Marina
During the drive to the marina, we’ll do a short briefing and give you a simple introduction to Lake Biwa—what the lake is like, what to expect for the day, and how we’ll approach the fishing based on conditions.
From hotels or stations around Kyoto, the drive to our marina typically takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic.
If you need a restroom break on the way, just let the driver know at any time—we can easily make a quick stop.

3) Convenience Store Stop for Lunch & Drinks
On our guided trips, we usually eat lunch on the boat so we can maximize fishing time and stay on the water during the best hours. For that reason, we’ll make a quick stop at a Japanese convenience store—such as 7-Eleven or Lawson—on the way to the marina to pick up lunch, snacks, and drinks.
Our boat is set up for comfort in every season:
- Summer: We bring a cooler box to keep drinks cold.
- Winter: We have equipment to boil hot water, which is perfect for warm meals.
Lake Biwa can get extremely hot in summer, and most guests end up drinking more than they expect on the water. We recommend buying extra drinks just in case—staying hydrated makes a big difference in both comfort and performance.
In winter, a hot cup of ramen on the lake feels priceless after hours in the cold wind. We can also provide hot coffee when conditions call for it.
Even something as simple as eating on the boat becomes part of the travel experience—one of those small, uniquely Japanese moments that many overseas anglers remember just as much as the fishing itself.

4) Arrive at the Marina & Get Ready
Once we arrive at the marina, your guide will begin preparing the bass boat for the day—launch checks, tackle setup, and making sure everything is ready for safe fishing.
While the guide is getting the boat ready, please take a moment to fill in your details on the passenger/boarding list (a standard safety procedure before departure)

Large, Stable Bass Boats for Lake Biwa
Most of our boats are top-class, full-size bass boats, chosen to help you fish comfortably and safely—even when Lake Biwa gets rough or windy. This is especially important on a big lake like Biwa, where conditions can change quickly.
Full Tackle Rental Included (No Need to Bring Gear)
You don’t need to worry about bringing your own equipment. We can provide everything you need, including:
- Rods & reels
- Lures
- Life jackets (PFD)
- Other essential tackle
All gear is prepared and available for rental, so you can travel light and still fish with confidence.

Note (Lake Kawaguchi only): Before departure, you must purchase a fishing license (day permit) locally. Please prepare cash, as it is paid directly to the guide on-site.
5) Marina Facilities (Rest Area, Toilets, and Showers)
Our marina is fully equipped with convenient facilities to keep your day comfortable, including:
- A rest area
- Toilets
- Shower rooms
If you’d like to use any of these during your visit, just let your guide know—we’ll help you with access and timing.
Please note that the shower room may require an additional usage fee, depending on the facility rules. If you plan to take a shower, check with your guide in advance so there are no surprises.

6) Rental Tackle (Try Premium Japanese JDM Gear)
On our guided trips, you can fish with high-quality Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) tackle—one of the highlights for many overseas anglers visiting Japan.
We stock premium, modern gear from top Japanese brands like Daiwa and Shimano, so you can enjoy the performance and feel of the latest Japanese reels and rods without having to bring your own setup.
Right-Hand & Left-Hand Retrieve Baitcasting Reels Available
For baitcasting reels, we offer both:
- Right-hand retrieve
- Left-hand retrieve
So you can fish with the same retrieve style you’re used to at home, with no adjustment stress.
Ask Anything About Japanese Fishing Gear
Our guides have deep knowledge of Japanese tackle and bass techniques. If you have questions during the trip—about reels, rods, lures, or JDM gear in general—feel free to ask. We’re happy to explain details and help you understand what makes Japanese equipment unique.

7) Launch Time: Head Out on Lake Biwa
Once everything is ready, the marina staff will help launch our boat into the lake. This is one of the best moments of the day—the instant your Lake Biwa bass fishing adventure truly begins.
Our guides know Lake Biwa’s fishing areas in depth, and we’ll choose the best spots based on the day’s conditions (weather, wind, water clarity, and seasonal patterns). From there, we’ll take you to the most promising locations to maximize your chances and make the most of your time on the water.

8) Fishing Time: Half-Day (4 Hours) or Full-Day (8 Hours)
Our fishing trips are designed to fit your schedule:
- Half-day trip: about 4 hours on the water
- Full-day trip: about 8 hours on the water
Throughout the trip, your guide will provide clear, step-by-step instruction—so even beginners and female anglers who are new to bass fishing can feel comfortable and confident. We’ll help with casting, lure selection, retrieves, hooksets, and boat-side landing techniques, adjusting the coaching level to your experience.
Lake Biwa is not only famous for trophy bass, but also for its beautiful scenery and wide-open nature. Enjoy the fishing at your own pace while taking in the lake’s impressive landscape—it’s a big part of what makes a guided day on Biwa special.

9) Return to the Marina (Wrap Up & Pack Down)
After a great day of fishing, we’ll head back to the marina safely. Even if the lake gets a bit rough, our guides always prioritize safety first—careful boat handling and smart route choices to ensure you return comfortably.
Once we arrive, we’ll clean up and pack away the boat and the gear used during the trip. Then we’ll get ready to drive you back to your hotel (or your preferred drop-off point).

10) Optional Tackle Shop Visit
After the trip, if you’d like, we can make an optional stop at a tackle shop near Lake Biwa so you can shop for Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) fishing gear. Many guests enjoy picking up Japan-only lures, rods, and accessories as a souvenir—and as a real upgrade for their home waters.
Tax-Free Shopping (Available at Some Stores)
Some shops may offer tax-free shopping for eligible visitors. If you want to use tax-free, please tell your guide in advance so we can choose the right store and help you prepare what you need.
Shopping Support from Your Guide
If you’re not sure what to buy, your guide can help inside the shop:
- Recommendations based on your fishing style and skill level
- “Must-buy” Japan-only lures and local favorites
- Guidance on sizes, colors, and seasonal choices for Lake Biwa (and beyond)
We can make the shopping stop quick and efficient—or take a bit more time if you want to browse and explore.

11) Drop-Off at Your Hotel or Station (Tour Ends)
After the fishing trip, we’ll drive you back safely to your hotel or the nearest station—the same easy, stress-free pickup and drop-off service from start to finish.
If you enjoyed your day with us, we’d truly appreciate it if you could leave a review. Your feedback helps future anglers choose the right Lake Biwa guide and supports our local guiding team.
